Premier League leaders Manchester City have the opportunity to move a step closer to winning the title with a win at European football hopefuls Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
In the reverse, Bernardo Silva scored a controversial late goal to break Villa hearts as Manchester City sealed a 2-0 win at home to the former European champions.
Manchester City have an eight-point advantage at the Premier League summit with six games to go. To this effect, the club needs at least ten points from those six games to win another title starting with the trip to Aston Villa. Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players were well on their way to the unprecedented quadruple before they were stopped by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals at the weekend. They can’t afford to let nearest challengers and city rivals Manchester United back into the title race with a poor result at Villa.
The Premier League title is the surest of the remaining three titles namely the league, Carabao Cup and the Champions League. To this effect, the citizens need to get the wins needed to seal it as it would be a significant blow if Manchester United were able to usurp their noisy neighbours at the top of the Premier League table.
Ahead of the game, star player Kevin De Bruyne won’t be involved after picking up an injury. He was subbed off during the Chelsea game at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday which ended in a 1-0 defeat for his team. With that result, Chelsea were able to progress into the FA Cup final where they would face Leicester City next month.
