Speculation is growing that this may be Manuel Pellegrini’s last season in charge at Manchester City, as the club are reportedly unhappy with the way the season is turning out. Despite once again splashing the cash on players like Mangala and Wilfried Bony, City have struggled to put together a strong defence for the league title.
Further, they have also been knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage once again. City have never successfully defended a Premier League title in their history. Pellegrini won the League Cup and the league title in his first season, but he is reportedly facing the sack before the end of the campaign.
One of the signings, Fernando says that the South American has been a huge influence on the team. Him along with many other players have learned a great deal from Pellegrini and they want the manager to stay. A 1-0 defeat against Burnley has put City as rank outsiders for the league title. There is even the danger of Arsenal overtaking them into second place if the poor form continues. City have managed only 16 points from the last available 33. There has also been criticism of Pellegrini that he still relies upon the squad built by Roberto Mancini.
